JAKARTA - The public prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission has demanded that the defendant, former North Maluku Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba, be sentenced to 9 years in prison in a bribery and gratification corruption case within the North Maluku Provincial Government. "The defendant Abdul Gani Kasuba was sentenced to nine years in prison and a fine of Rp. 300 million, subsidiary to six months in prison," said KPK prosecutor Rony Yusuf during a trial reading the charges at the Corruption Court at the Ternate District Court, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 22. In his charge, Rony stated that the defendant Abdul Gani Kasuba was legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption as in the first, third and third charges. The prosecutor in the indictment for the defendant Abdul Gani Kasuba as thick as 1,872 pages prepared for two weeks also demanded replacement money in the amount of Rp109,056 billion and 90 thousand US dollars, provided that if the defendant Abdul Gani Kasuba did not pay the replacement money no later than one month after the court's decision obtained face-to-face legal force, then his property could be confiscated by the prosecutor and auctioned off to cover the replacement money. In the event that the convict does not have sufficient assets to pay the replacement money, he will be sentenced to 5 years in prison. The prosecutor also stipulated that the length of detention of the defendant was deducted entirely from the sentence imposed and ordered the defendant to remain in custody. The former Governor of North Maluku for two periods, Abdul Gani Kasuba, was also threatened with criminal charges in Article 12 letter a in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code. Second, the defendant's actions are subject to criminal penalties in Article 12 letter b in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, and third, violating Article 12 letter B. Previously, Abdul Gani Kasuba was charged with accepting bribes worth more than Rp. 100 billion, either through account transfers or in cash. In carrying out the transaction, the defendant Abdul Gani Kasuba used 27 accounts belonging to the aide and the money was given by various parties, both from the head of the service within the North Maluku Provincial Government and the private sector. Abdul Gani Kasuba received the money from 2019 to 2023. The money was received by the defendant in several places, including in Ternate City, North Maluku, and in Jakarta.

The trial chaired by the Chairman of the Halim Kadar Noh Council, with member judges Budi Setyawan, Khadijah A. Rumalean, Samhadi, and Yakob Widodo will continue on Friday (30/8) next week with the agenda of defense or plea from the defendant.
