Psychologist Invites Women Victims Of Violence To Dare To Speak Up And Report To Police

JAKARTA - Cases of violence against women are increasingly occurring. This phenomenon is often considered like an iceberg. A small part of the cases of violence that appeared to be surfaced, while many other cases were hidden and not handled properly.

As experienced by Alya (20), a young woman at a hotel in the Cengkareng area, West Jakarta. The violence that took place on July 11, 2024 was only revealed after the victim ventured to speak up (talk openly). Moreover, the case of abuse was carried out by his lover with the initials MB alias Bintang (20).

A psychologist at Pancasila University, Maharani Putri Langka responded to the incident of physical violence experienced by a young woman and carried out by her lover in an elevator in the Cengkareng area, West Jakarta.

According to Maharani, reporting acts of violence against women is very important in spurring the courage of a number of other victims to report.

"This can reduce the fear felt by the victims. Access is increasingly open and reports that are easier can become a way to break the chain of violence," Maharani told reporters, Thursday, August 22.

Maharani hopes that cases of violence against women will not happen again in the future. To the victims, they must be brave enough to report violence so that it does not happen again.

"This case is an example that the victim must now dare to report, because if not, we cannot decide the violence," he said.

Maharani appealed to parents to be more active in communicating with their children to detect signs of violence from an early age.

"Families, especially parents, should talk more often with their children, because things like this should not be faced alone," he said.

In addition, Maharani asked the public not to justify acts of violence on the grounds that the perpetrators were accidental or emotional. The reason is, the behavior of violence that is allowed tends to happen again.

"If violence has occurred, it should be reported. If you have not dared to report to the police, tell your family or close friends," he said.

Maharani emphasized that from any perspective, acts of violence cannot be justified in relationships.

"Whatever the perspective, violence cannot be done against a partner or someone else," he said.

As is known, the Cengkareng Police arrested MB alias Bintang (20) for molesting his girlfriend, Alya (20) in an elevator at the Royal Palem Hotel, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta.

"The perpetrator MB was arrested at his parents' house in Ciledug, Tangerang," said West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief, AKBP Teuku Arsya Gaddafi when confirmed, Wednesday, August 21.

AKBP Arsya said the victim had actually tried to mediate with the perpetrator. For almost a month, Alya hopes that there will be good faith from Bintang, either in the form of an apology or a change in attitude.

However, after no positive response from the perpetrator, the victim decided to report the physical violence to the police.

"The victim requested that this incident be followed up immediately," he said.
