The Police Sends 1.985 Personnel To Secure Rizieq's Trial, Will His Supporters Obey The Health Protocols?

JAKARTA - The police have prepared a scheme to secure Rizieq Shihab's trial which took place at the East Jakarta District Court. In this security scheme, thousands of joint personnel were deployed to escort the trial which took place on Friday, March 26.

"The strength we are preparing for the 1985 combined personnel is the offline trial tomorrow", said Head of Public Relations of Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) Yusri Yunus to reporters, Thursday, March 25.

Not only did they mobilize thousands of personnel, in the scheme of securing the trial of the three Rizieq Shihab cases which were held offline or face to face, the police also issued an appeal to the supporters of the former high priest of the Islamic Defender Front (FPI).

They were asked not to come to the East Jakarta District Court. This is because the presence of Rizieq Shihab's supporters can create a potential crowd that can spread the COVID-19.

"The appeal is better for the supporters not to come there, it will even violate health protocols. Let's just follow the legal process", said Yusri.

However, if there are still supporters of Rizieq Shihab who come to the East Jakarta District Court, the police will again urge them to disperse and return to their homes.

In fact, the police will take firm action if Rizieq's supporters ignore the appeal. The firm action in question is to arrest them.

"We guarantee it (if supporters breaking the rules)", continued Yusri.

Separately, Rizieq Shihab's lawyer, Novel Bamukmin, appealed to all Rizieq Shihab's supporters not to come to the East Jakarta District Court. The goal is to maintain a conducive atmosphere at the trial.

"We urge Muslims, especially the 212 spirit mass period to continue to monitor and oversee the proceedings through glass or electronic media, either directly or live streaming", said Novel.

"In order to maintain a conducive atmosphere at the trial", he continued.

In addition, supporters who still choose to come are asked to continue implementing health protocols and taking care of themselves. Because it is likely that there will be a lot of provocation.

"Fulfilling the existing health protocols is also not provoked by those who want to harm the struggle", he said.

As previously reported, Rizieq Shihab will undergo three trials. The trial for alleged violations of the health protocols (prokes) in Petamburan.

In this case, Rizieq Shihab was charged with incitement to the appearance of a crowd at his daughter's wedding as well as commemorating the Prophet's day in Petamburan, Central Jakarta. This crowd is taking place in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

According to prosecutors, Rizieq Shihab and Haris Ubaidillah, Ahmad Sabri Lubis, Ali Alwi Alatas, Idrus alias Idrus Al Habsyi and Maman Suryadi were an incitement to the emergence of a crowd in Petamburan.

Second, Rizieq Shihab will undergo a violation of health protocols at Megamendung. Rizieq was charged with failing to comply with the implementation of health quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rizieq Shihab continued to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Markaz Syariah Agro-Cultural Islamic Boarding School in Kuta Village, Megamendung District, Bogor Regency.

Third, Rizieq Shihab was charged with spreading fake news or hoaxes that caused confusion. This false news is related to his health condition which was confirmed positive for COVID-19 while at UMMI Hospital in Bogor, West Java.

According to the prosecutor, Rizieq's video stating that he was healthy despite the fact that COVID-19 had an impact on the occurrence of chaos. This is because the Padjadjaran Bersatu Community Forum (FMPB) held a demonstration on November 30.

"With the video showing that contradicts the reality, it has caused confusion among the people and caused an uproar both for and against", said the prosecutor.
