RI's 79th Anniversary In Sydney, Randwick Mayor Amazed By Indonesian Public Friendliness

JAKARTA - The warmth and hospitality of the Indonesian people in the midst of the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia which was held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia Sydney, Australia, amazed local authorities.

At least 800 people from various backgrounds participated in the commemoration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day which was held for the first time by the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney at Kensington Park on August 17, 2024.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney in his written statement said this was an important moment to strengthen the sense of togetherness and national pride among Indonesian citizens and the Indonesian diaspora in Australia, as well as a reflection of the spirit of "Nusantara Baru, Advanced Indonesia". The celebration began with a ceremony to raise the Red and White Flag which took place solemnly, led by the Indonesian Consul General in Sydney, Vedi Kurnia Buana, who acted as the Inspector of ceremonies.

Meanwhile, Navy Captain Muhammad Ali acted as Ceremony Commander. He also serves as a coach for all ceremony officers who include Indonesia's young generation in Sydney, such as jars, WHV visa holders, as well as representatives of the Indonesian community, namely the Indonesian Islamic Student Family (KPII) Sydney who is a member of Paskibra and ceremonial officers.

Meanwhile, the raising of the Red and White Flag this time was accompanied by the national anthem "Indonesia Raya" which was performed by the Youth Choir from the Indonesian Evangelical Reformed Church Sydney.

"I am very proud to see the spirit of unity and strong unity among our people in Sydney. I hope that they can all become Indonesian ambassadors wherever they are, a good example in the international community," said Consul General Vedi in a statement. Mayor Randwick City Council, Cr. Philipa Veitch, who was present as an honorary guest, expressed his appreciation for seeing the community and the Indonesian community gather together to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day and participate in various competitions.

According to Major Cr. Philipa, togetherness in the Indonesian community feels familiar and warm.

"I really like the Indonesian community, they are very friendly and warm," he said.

On this occasion, Konjen Vedi also cut the thanksgiving cone, and then handed it over to representatives of the Indonesian people and those who have their birthdays in August.

"In the midst of global dynamics that continue to change, unity and integrity are a solid foundation to face various challenges in the future. Together we can maintain our cultural identity, as well as contribute positively to the international community. This spirit of togetherness is our main strength" concluded Consul General Vedi.
