Russia Says Ukraine Destroys Bridges In Kursk With US-made Rockets

JAKARTA - Russia's Foreign Ministry said Ukraine used a suspected US-made HIMARS rocket to destroy a bridge over the Seym river in the Kursk region. The attack resulted in the death of a volunteer who was evacuating civilians.

For the first time, Kursk's territory was hit by a Western-made rocket launcher, possibly HIMARS America, "said Maria Zakharova, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, as reported by Reuters, Saturday, August 17.

As a result of the attack on the bridge over the Seym River in Glushkovo district, the bridge was completely destroyed, and volunteers helped the evacuated civilians die, Maria added.

Russian troops previously destroyed Ukrainian surveillance and sabotage units armed with weapons from NATO countries in Russia's western Kursk region.

The sample of small weapons produced by the United States and Sweden has been seized at the site of the destruction of the Ukrainian sabotage group near the village of Kremyanoe in the Kursk region, RIA news agency quoted a Russian security official as saying by Reuters on Friday, August 16.

Russian troops confiscated Swedish-made Automatic Carbine 5 assault rifles and US-made M4 carbine assault rifles and M2 Browning machine guns.

Russia has been fighting back by attacking Ukrainian troops in Kursk since August 6, when Kyiv launched its biggest attack on Russia's sovereign territory since the Second World War.
