Russian Attack Kills 3 People In Donetsk Ukraine

JAKARTA - Russian attacks killed three civilians and injured five others in the past 24 hours in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region.

The eastern region of Donetsk, which is partly occupied by Russian troops, is often the target of Russian airstrikes and shootings. Ukraine says the attempt to seize the region is a priority for the battlefield for Moscow.

Reported by Reuters on Friday, August 16, the number of battles reported by the Kyiv military on the Pokrovsk front in the past 24 hours fell to 41 from 58 the previous day.

This area has become the scene of the toughest fighting in the war.

The regional governor, Vadym Filashkin, said the attack injured three people in the Selydove area in the district around Pokrovsk. Six buildings were damaged.

One person died in Mykolayivka village and two others were injured in Kostyantynivka city west of Bakhmut, the city of destruction captured by Russia last year after months of fierce fighting.

Two more people died in Verkhniokamyanka village, said Filashkin. Nine residential buildings and eight houses were also damaged in the district.

Russian troops stepped up their attack on Pokrovsk fronts this week after Ukrainian forces launched a surprise strike on August 6 and said they had advanced as far as 35 km to the Kursk region in Russia.
