AHY Reveals The Reason SBY Did Not Fulfill The Invitation To The 79th Anniversary Of The Republic Of Indonesia At IKN

Chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) could not attend the celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN), Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

AHY explained that SBY is currently in his hometown of Pacitan Regency, East Java. He said that SBY would be in Pacitan and also celebrate Indonesia's independence day there.

"Mr. SBY is currently in Pacitan. He is already in his hometown," he said after providing a recommendation letter for a regional head candidate at the DPP Democrat office, Jakarta, last Thursday.

AHY revealed that SBY had previously traveled to Pacitan by bus from Cikeas. SBY, he said, had long planned to return to his hometown because August 17 was the day SBY Ani Museum and Gallery was established in Pacitan.

"So he has been planning together with his friends for a long time, especially the one who graduated from the 1973 Academy will commemorate the anniversary of independence, as well as the first anniversary of the SBY Ani Museum and Gallery. So he will be in Pacitan," he said.

AHY said he would attend the celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day at IKN. The plan is for SBY's son to fly to IKN after attending the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD 2024, Friday 16 August.

"Yang di IKN saya, setelah akan menghadiri sidang MPR dan DPR/DPD pagi, siang sampai sore langsung menuju ke bandara untuk terbang ke Balikpapan lalu menuju ke IKN untuk mengikuti upacara pengibaran bendera pada tanggal 17 Agustus di hari besok nanti nanti nanti," jelasnya.

Previously, the Palace invited a number of former presidents and former vice presidents, such as the fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri to SBY to attend the celebration of the 79th Indonesian Independence Day at IKN on August 17, 2024.

Deputy for Protocol and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, M Yusuf Permana, confirmed that the invitation had been sent as of Thursday (8/8/2024). "Today's plan, for the former, both the former president and vice president, will immediately be sent an invitation," he said.
