JAKARTA - Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD rejected the proposal for an island reclamation plan for garbage collection initiated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
Deputy Chairman of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Nova Harivan Paloh, explained the reason his party rejected the waste island planning study budget proposed by the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service in the amendment to the 2024 budget year APBD.
According to Nova, the DKI Provincial Government should optimize existing waste processing facilities to reduce the volume of waste to be full at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST).
"We will maximize what has been made. Maybe the solution is also, later if you want to add tonnage, just add more. For example, in Bantargebang, if you add another 1,000 tons, or 2,000 tons, go ahead," Nova told reporters, Thursday, August 15.
Every day, about 7,500 tons of Jakarta's waste production is taken to the Bantargebang TPST. A total of 1,000 tons of Jakarta's total waste is brought to the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant Bantargebang to be processed into coal equivalent energy.
The DKI Provincial Government is also building RDF plants in Rorotan, North Jakarta which are planned to process 2,500 tons. In addition, there is also the construction of a number of waste management sites for reuse, reduce, and recycle (TPS3R) in several sub-districts that can process 500 tons.
According to Nova, these facilities can still be maximized before the DKI Provincial Government builds new waste processing by reclamation of islands.
"In the rototan, right, with the existing engine capacity, for example, maybe the back room is added. Maximize it first, what we have been strong, that's it. We shouldn't add any new burdens either," explained Nova.
Previously, Heru revealed the desire to reclamation a special island as a landfill for final waste (TPA).
Heru assessed that this garbage disposal site needs to be built on new plains. This is because the availability of land in Jakarta is currently unable to accommodate Jakarta's waste every day.
"I have a thought that one of them is that we must dare to build final waste disposal sites such as Bantargebang," said Heru in North Jakarta, Monday, May 13.
Heru gave an example of the construction of a waste disposal site on the island resulting from this reclamation by the Singapore government by building the island of Sembakau.
According to Heru, the reclamation location of this new island as a garbage reservoir can be built in waters near North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands.
"We have an idea is that on the north side of the sea, we can push 5 kilos from the mainland. Later the waste can be processed with technology by throwing it into the area," said Heru.
