KM Kirana I Burns in Semarang Waters, All Crew Survived

Joint officers evacuated 52 crew members of the KM Kirana I ship belonging to PT Dharma Lautan Utama (DLU) which caught fire in the waters of Semarang, Central Java, Sunday.

Director of Polairud Polda Central Java Kombes Pol. Hariadi said that a number of crew members had thrown themselves into the sea when the passenger ship caught fire

"All crews were evacuated, including those who threw themselves into the sea," he said, quoted by Antara.

In addition to the ship belonging to the Ditpolairud of the Central Java Police, he said, the evacuation of the crew by a number of guided ships helped extinguish the fire.

Kombes Pol. Hariadi said that there were no casualties in the incident because the ship was not carrying passengers.

Meanwhile, efforts to extinguish and secure areas around the waters where the ship caught fire are still being carried out by joint officers.

The Director of Polairud Polda Central Java added that the investigation into the cause of the burning of the ship after the ship fire was extinguished.

Previously, KM Kirana I caught fire in Semarang waters about 3 miles from Tanjung Emas Port on Sunday afternoon.

KM Kirana is planned to dock for Semarang Port before continuing its journey to Sampit on August 13, 2024.
