44 Palestinians Killed In Israeli Attacks After Ceasefire Negotiations Failed

JAKARTA - Palestinian health authorities said at least 44 Palestinians were killed on Sunday, a day after negotiations in Cairo ended without results.

At least 30 people were killed when Israeli airstrikes hit two schools in Gaza on Sunday. The Israeli military claimed the attack hit the Hamas military complex that took refuge in the schools.

A day earlier, Israeli airstrikes hit a tent camp in a hospital in central Gaza.

Footage circulating in Palestinian media showed bodies strewn in the courtyard of one of the two schools destroyed by explosions as residents rushed to carry victims, including children, loading them into ambulances that took them to at least two nearby hospitals.

Gaza's Civil Emergency Service said dozens of people were injured in addition to the death toll in Hassan Salama and Al-Nasser schools, which houses displaced Palestinian families.

The Israeli military said it attacked militants within Hamas' inside-school command and took steps to reduce the risk for civilians there.

Israel says Islamist militant groups Hamas regularly hide in civilian institutions, using Gazans as human shields. Hamas denied it.

Earlier that day, Israeli attacks inside the Al-Aqsa Hospital compound sparked a fire, injured at least 18 people and killed five people, medical authorities said.

Residents in the southeastern region of Khan Younis in southern Gaza and north of Rafah, where heavy fighting was fought last month, reported receiving evacuation orders from the Israeli military.

An Israeli military spokesman posted an order on X, asking residents of the district to go to the humanitarian zone, saying troops would immediately act decisively against the militants launching attacks from the region.

Nearly 10 months after Israel's war, much of Gaza's territory was devastated amid a crippling blockade on food, clean water and medicine.

Separately, Gaza's doza medical sources said the Israeli attack on the Palestinian enclave in the past 24 hours left 33 people dead and 118 injured, quoted from WAFA.

Meanwhile, Gaza's health authorities confirmed on Sunday that the death toll of Palestinians as a result of Israeli attacks since the conflict broke out on October 7, 2023, had reached 39,583 people and 91,398 others were injured. The majority of victims were women and children.
