JAKARTA - The chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Meutya Hafid, regretted the continuous attacks that occurred in the Middle East, especially between Palestine and Israel. Moreover, the attack resulted in the Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, being killed in the incident in Tehran, Iran.

Meutya is worried that the death of the Hamas leader will make the situation in the Middle East hotter to make it difficult for Palestinian independence.

"I mourn and regret the continued violence and attacks in the Middle East," said Meutya, Wednesday, July 31.

"I am afraid that the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya will make the situation in the Middle East hotter, and could have an impact on the increasingly difficult peace efforts in Palestine in general and the Middle East," continued the Golkar legislator.

The head of the foreign commission asked all parties to pressure Israel to take the path of dialogue in resolving conflicts with Palestine.

"As well as asking Israel to comply with international law and legal decisions including the ICJ decision, the International Court of Justice which states that Israel's occupation of Palestine violates the law," said Meutya.
