Kremlin Denies Russian Speculation Behind French Train Sabotage

The Kremlin has dismissed Western media speculation that suspects Russia was behind a series of attacks on France's rail system.

The Kremlin says Western media often try to corner Moscow over everything without evidence.

When asked about media speculation, Russia was behind the attack, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "This is just the latest lie - baseless accusations," quoted by Reuters, Monday, July 29.

"The fact is there are a lot of low-end media, and even respected media, which lately have not hesitated to do anything to blame Russia for everything that happened," Peskov said.

Perpetrators of sabotage attacked France's rail network in a series of attacks ahead of dawn across the country on Friday 26 July last week, causing travel chaos.

The incident also showed a weak security just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin previously said he could not rule out foreign involvement in attacks sabotaging signal stations and cables on high-speed rail networks in the country.

Most recently, Darmanin said that his party suspected that members of the left wing group were behind the sabotage of the train network.
