Police personnel deployed to Paris stations were reproduced as many people were trapped in the area following severe disruptions, Nunez told broadcast mediaFranceinfo.
Previously, the SNCF said its rail line was damaged overnight ahead of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
"SNCF has fallen victim to several malicious acts carried out simultaneously at LGV Atlantique, North & East," the company said on X.
The company said the fire was deliberately set to damage the facility. Fast train traffic is heavily disrupted on several routes, the company said while asking passengers to postpone the trip.
Local media reported that around 800,000 passengers were affected and traffic would not resume operations at one of Paris' main stations, Montparnasse, at least until 13.00 p.m. local time (18.00 p.m. local time).

French Sports MinisterAmelie Oudea-Castera in an interview with BFMTV said traffic would be disrupted this Friday and possibly also this weekend.
"At this point of analysis, what I understand is that there have been one or more malicious acts, some coordinated sabotage," Oudea-Castera said, but she stressed that the situation was still being analyzed.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will officially begin with the opening ceremony on Friday evening local time on the River Seene. Football, archery, and rugby matches began earlier this week before the opening ceremony.
