JAKARTA - Police in England were suspended from all tasks on Thursday, July 25 after a viral video on social media showing him kicking and stepping on the head of a man lying on the terminal floor at Manchester Airport.
Manchester Police said the incident occurred when police tried to break up a fight at Terminal 2 of the airport on Wednesday, July 24.
Three officers were attacked, one of whom suffered a broken nose and the other needed treatment at the hospital, the police said.
"We understand the deep concern that has been widely conveyed to us, and will continue to meet and discuss this incident with Manchester residents and elected representatives, while this independent investigation is being carried out," the Manchester Police said.
The incident comes amid growing distrust of police in the UK following allegations of overuse of force against ethnic minorities and scandals involving two police officers arrested for rape and murder.
The independent investigation carried out by the government recently found that the London Metropolitan Police were institutionally racist, homophobic, and misogynistic.
The Manchester officer was suspended after crowds gathered outside the police station to protest police violence.
Police said the demonstration ended without an incident.
