JAKARTA - Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak spoke about the discourse that the TNI may do business. He suggested that the TNI be allowed to do business because currently many of its members need side income by becoming online motorcycle taxis.

Maruli stated that as long as it does not interfere with his main job as a soldier, it is not prohibited. He reasoned that currently the economic needs of TNI soldiers are not small, one of which is the need for education costs for his children.

"Yes, never mind, the important thing is to be present (on duty to the TNI), good work. Two three hours of motorcycle taxis are not bad," Maruli said after leading the career officer admission activity at TNI AD Headquarters, Jakarta, Monday, July 23.

Even so, according to Maruli, the members of the business must still attend morning apples and evening apples. Otherwise, his superiors will scold the person concerned.

"There is our morning rally, please see. One person has just disappeared, it is impossible to get a motorbike permit," he said.

Currently, the DPR and the government are working on a revision of the Law (RUU) on the TNI. Regarding the TNI's proposal to do business, according to Maruli, it must be discussed about the points of restriction in terms of business.

However, if later in the law it is still not allowed, Maruli ensured that the Indonesian Army would comply with these rules.

In addition, Kasad also ensures that his institution will not tolerate if there are members of the TNI who do illegal business. "If it can be made corridors, we will do it. If the law says no, you don't have to do business," said Maruli.
