Not Yet Announced Cagub East Java Competitors Khofifah, PKB: We Must Look For Stronger Figures

JAKARTA - The National Awakening Party (PKB) has yet to announce the nomination of the candidate for Governor-Deputy Governor of East Java in the 2024 Pilkada. Meanwhile, now the pair Khofifah Indar Parawansa-Emil Dardak continues to receive the support of many political parties to run for the East Java gubernatorial election. Deputy Chairman of PKB Jazilul Fawaid admitted that his party was still looking for candidates who were able to compete with Khofifah as the incumbent candidate. "Yes, because indeed we have to find a stronger figure than the existing one," said Jazilul at the PKB DPP Office, Central Jakarta, Monday, July 22 evening. However, Jazilul emphasized that the constraint on finding the cagub-cawagub figure faced by PKB did not mean that Khofifah could not be defeated in the 2024 Pilkada contestation. "We have not found alone that PKB and the people of East Java would be accepted," said Jazilul. At the provincial level, the East Java PKB Regional Leadership Council (DPW) is establishing a potential coalition with PDIP to pair up former East Java PWNU Chair Marzuki Mustamar with Social Minister Tri Rismaharini in the East Java Pilgub.

Regarding the couple's proposal, Jazilul assessed that the party's DPP still needed to believe that Marzuki-Risma had a chance to win the election against Khofifah-Emil. "It is believed that they can win," he explained.
