Tops of National Children's Day in Papua, Jokowi reviews polio vaccination programme in Jayapura

JAYAPURA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo is scheduled to directly review the start of the second round of Polio National Immunisation Week (PIN) at Rajawali III Posyandu of Graha Nendali Housing, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, Papua, on Tuesday, 23 July 2024.

The arrival of Indonesian President Joko Widodo along with First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and other state officials to Rajawali III Posyandu Graha Nendali Housing is the culmination of the 40th National Children's Day (HAN) 2024.

Secretary of Jayapura District Health Office Edward Sihotang, said the Rajawali III Posyandu service will run as usual during President Jokowi's visit to the place.

"Mr President and his entourage will directly witness the eradication of polio immunization to children at Rajawali III Posyandu," Edward said, quoted by ANTARA on Tuesday 23 July.

According to Edward, coordination for the arrival of the number one person in Indonesia has been going well, between the 40th HAN Central Committee and the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres).

"We continue to build communication from the night until this morning, including the readiness of parents to bring their children to Posyandu Rajawali III," he said.

He explained that approximately 120 toddlers and children will attend the start of the second round of Polio PIN in Papua Province witnessed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

"Seven posyandu cadres and five health workers from the community health centers will assist in the successful implementation of the second round of Polio Eradication and the start of the Polio Eradication Programme in Papua," he said.

He expects that the direct witnessing of the Polio PIN by President Jokowi, will boost the implementation of the polio vaccine to children nationally, especially in Papua.

"In addition to the Polio PIN activities, there is also the provision of nutritious or additional food to toddlers and children who participate in these activities at Rajawali III Posyandu," he said.

In the activity there is also the provision of assistance from the central and regional governments to the people of Papua.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will hold a discussion or question and answer session with the community regarding health and social welfare in Papua, especially Jayapura Regency.
