Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi supports the change in the status of Muara Sampara Port (PMS) in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, from a special terminal (sus) raised to a Port Business Entity (BUP).

"We support connectivity from and to Muara Sampara. Now what we need to improve is to raise the status of PMS from a special terminal to a port business entity," Budi said while visiting PT Pelabuhan Muara Sampara (PMS) in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Saturday, July 20, 2024, as reported by Antara.

According to the Minister of Transportation, changing the status of tersus to BUP will increase transportation connectivity at Muara Sampara Port.

PMS is a port located in the Industrial Estate of PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industrial Park (VDNIP).

During his visit, the Minister of Transportation met with the Director of PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industrial, Xu Shaotang, and Director of PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (OSS), Lian Liwei.

These two companies are nickel smelters in the Muara Sampara Port area.

"The route is still in a state of suspension, Muara Sampara Port currently only serves loading and unloading from two companies, namely VNDI and OSS," said the Minister of Transportation.

The Minister of Transportation encourages PMS status to become a BUP or general terminal so that it can be used by various companies. Thus, it is hoped that it will increase connectivity which will have an impact on increasing state revenue through Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP).

"There are two benefits obtained from the increase from tersus to general terminals. First, we provide legal certainty that what is made or operated is in accordance with the provisions. On the other hand, the Government ensures that the regulation runs well," said the Minister of Transportation again.

The Ministry of Transportation targets more terminal owners for their own interests (TUKS) and tersus who apply for permits to become Port Business Entities (BUP) so that they can serve port activities for the public interest in accordance with the provisions and fulfill safety and service aspects.

"With the status of a general terminal or BUP, PNBP can continue to be improved in the midst of limited APBN. Later it will be used to improve transportation services and connectivity to remote areas," said Budi.
