Prabowo asks new officers to master AI and cyberwarfare to face new threats

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto asked new TNI and Polri officers to master artificial intelligence (AI), cyber technology, unmanned systems, and foreign languages. According to him, the threat to Indonesia is no longer just coming through armed warfare.

Prabowo conveyed this message when he became the Inspector of the 2026 TNI and Polri Prasetya Perwira (Praspa) Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (22/7).

Prabowo said that geopolitical changes made the threat pattern more complex. In addition to cyber warfare and information warfare, Indonesia also faces the threat of narcotics, smuggling, transnational crime, and cultural infiltration.

"Currently the world is changing very quickly. Competition between countries is getting tighter. Threats are no longer just coming from weapons," said Prabowo.

Therefore, Indonesia must strengthen its independence in the fields of food, energy, technology, defense industry, and science.

Prabowo emphasized that TNI and Polri officers were the front line to maintain state sovereignty in the midst of these changes.

"Master science and technology. Master artificial intelligence, cyber systems, autonomous technology, and foreign languages," he said.

He assessed that future officers do not have enough military and police skills. They are also required to master science and technology without neglecting character, discipline, and leadership.

According to Prabowo, the TNI and Polri must remain professional institutions and work together to face new challenges that continue to evolve.
