Performance Of The Online Judicial Task Force Must Be Supervised With Special Regulations

JAKARTA - The performance of the Online Judi Task Force formed by the government needs special regulations to supervise it.

This was stated by sociologist from the University of Indonesia (UI) Nadia Yovani quoting Antara. This must be done so that the performance of the task force in eradicating online gambling can be monitored and accounted for.

"The government has formed a Judol Eradication Task Force, then who is monitoring it? Across ministries, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, are there police or not? Have you cooperated with cyber police?" he said.

According to Nadia, the presence of the online gambling task force only solves problems in terms of law enforcement and prevention in the field.

The task force can also act freely because it is based on the president's decision which was recently issued by President Joko Widodo.

However, he assessed that the government had not provided a legal basis for supervising online gambling. With the absence of a legal basis for supervision, the task force has the potential to not get strict supervision at work.

Therefore, he hopes that the government will form a special regulation for monitoring the online gambling task force so that the task force is not used for things that deviate from the law.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued a decree to form an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force led by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto.

The formation of the Task Force is contained in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 21 of 2024 concerning the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force which was issued in Jakarta on June 14, 2024.

"Until now, 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed and the Online Judi Task Force has been formed to accelerate the eradication of online gambling," said Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Friday (12/6).
