Jokowi Asked To Immediately Issue Surpres Substitution Of KPU Commissioner Ahead Of The 2024 Pilkada

JAKARTA - The National Mandate Party (PAN) has asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to immediately issue a presidential letter to replace the central KPU commissioner. The reason is that the 2024 Pilkada which will be held in November needs to be carefully prepared.

Chairman of the PAN faction, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, said that all elements of the central KPU leadership must be fully filled and can work optimally.

"This is a big job. There are 37 provinces and 508 regencies and cities that will be elections simultaneously. They will definitely confiscate a lot of energy and thoughts," he said on Friday, July 19.

In terms of implementation, this simultaneous regional election is expected to take place dynamically with various complexities. There are thousands of contestants who will compete. There is involvement of supporters from political parties, mass organizations, elements and various community structures at the grassroots.

"It must be prepared carefully. Although it is more complicated, the implementation of simultaneous regional elections should be better than the last legislative and presidential elections," Saleh suggested.

Technically, changing the central KPU commissioner is not difficult. There is no need for recruitment and selection anymore. It is only a matter of inaugurating and ratifying candidates for KPU commissioners in the next serial number.

"Based on the sequence, actually the following serial number is Viryan Aziz. Since he has passed away, the following ranking is Iffa Rosita. The person is still there. He is still active as a member of the KPU in East Kalimantan," said Saleh.

"However, the replacement must comply with legal regulations. The DPR requires a presidential letter (surpres) as the legal basis for determining a new commissioner," concluded Saleh.
