French Man Arrested On Alleged Planned Paris Olympics Attack

JAKARTA - France's security agency arrested a far-right sympathizer in eastern France on suspicion of planning an attack that would occur during the Paris Olympics, said Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.

"Bravo to the agents of the Ministry of Home Affairs who arrested a member of the ultra-right group, who is suspected of wanting to commit acts of violence during the Olympics. As previously reported, a soldier was stabbed and injured by a man armed with a knife at a train station in Paris.

This news was conveyed by the interior minister, a few days before the French capital hosted the Summer Olympics.

Reported by Reuters, Tuesday, July 16, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said via X, the attacker had been arrested, while the soldier's injuries were not life-threatening.

France is at its highest alert status. The army was deployed in Operation Sentinel, a unit measuring 3,000 people patrolling locations such as train stations, places of worship, schools and theaters.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal placed 3,000 additional troops on standby at Sentinelle.
