Deputy Minister Of Religion Affirms 5 NU Cadres Meet With Israeli President Not On Behalf Of The Government Of The Republic Of Indonesia

Deputy Minister of Religion (Wamenag) Saiful Rahmat Dasuki said the meeting of 5 Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) or nahdliyin residents with Israeli President Isaac Herzog was not on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We emphasize that it is not on behalf of PBNU (Nadlatul Ulama Executive Board) and also not on behalf of the Government of Indonesia," said Saiful after attending the opening of the 10th National Conference (Munas) of the Zakat Forum at the Vice Presidential Palace (Wapres), Jakarta, Tuesday.

Saiful admitted that he had also communicated with the Secretary-General of the PBNU, Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul, regarding the incident. He said Gus Ipul would clarify further the five NU cadres.

"Communication with the Secretary General (PBNU) and God willing, the Secretary General will clarify them," said the Deputy Minister of Religion.

It is known, Gus Ipul said PBNU would summon five NU cadres who met Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his photo went viral on social media.

"The person concerned will be summoned for further questioning and explanation regarding the purpose of his purpose, background, and who sent him, as well as other principles," said Gus Ipul in a statement received in Jakarta, Monday, July 15.

In addition, he said that PBNU also immediately summoned the leadership of the autonomous body (banom), as well as the institutions that were dedicated to the five people.

"The General Chair will also summon the leadership of the banom and the institution that is the service concerned," he said.

He explained that if elements of organizational violations are found, it is not impossible that the five people will be dismissed from their status as administrators of institutions or banoms.
