JAKARTA - The Kremlin spokesman declined to comment on the US presidential election that will be held in November, after the shooting of Donald Trump on Saturday, asserting that Russia condemns the incident.
Trump was wounded in the ear in a shooting during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, in an attack that is now being investigated as an assassination attempt. The attacker was shot dead and law enforcement officials said they had not yet identified a motive.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that his party condemned all forms of violence during the political struggle commenting on the incident experienced by the Republican presidential candidate.
"Russia always condemns and we strongly condemn all forms of violence during the political struggle," he told reporters Sunday, reported by TASS July 15.
Asked whether the shooting of the former president would affect the legitimacy of the results of the 2024 US election, Peskov asserted that Russia was reluctant to interfere in Washington's internal affairs.
"We will not judge. We do not want to interfere in the slightest, because this is an internal US matter," he told reporters.
