JAKARTA - Milan's main airport will be renamed former Italian prime minister and business tycoon Silvio Berlusconi, said Transport Minister Matteo Salvini.
Berlusconi, who died last year at the age of 86, led four governments in the center-rightest Italian Forza party, and was one of the most divided Italian figures of modern times.
Speaking at a news conference, Salvini said civil aviation authorities had approved a request for the Lombardy region around Milan to rename Malpensa airport in honor of Berlusconi, who came from the country's financial capital.
"Given the final decision in the hands of the Minister of Transportation, I think this decision will still be implemented," said Salvini, leader of the far-right party and longtime ally of Berlusconi.
