JAKARTA - Australian police arrested a 14-year-old boy for stabbing at Sydney University.

The emergency crew handled a 22-year-old man who was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, the state police of New South Wales said.

New South Wales Police Counter-Terrorism Assistant Commissioner Markqur said the motive for the stabbing perpetrator's son is not yet known. However, he expressed concern over the increasing number of evidence of young people being radicalized online.

"They adhere to violent extremist ideology and move towards violence," he said.

The suspected attacker boarded the bus after the incident and was arrested near the hospital, police said. There is no ongoing risk for the community, and the victim and the suspected attacker do not know each other.

Sydney University spokeswoman said police operations were underway on Camperdown campus and police would remain on campus while investigations continued.

The attack comes about two months after six people were killed and 12 injured in a knife attack at a mall in the Bondi area, Sydney, and a church bishop was injured in an unrelated stabbing attack during a service in western Sydney.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with terrorism offenses over the stabbing of a bishop, while the assailant at the mall was shot dead by police.
