"The number of poor people in Central Java as of March 2024 was recorded at 3.70 million people, down from the same period the previous year which reached 3.79 million people," said BPS President Inspector Dadang Hardiwan in a press release in Semarang, Monday, July 1, as reported by Antara.
According to him, the number of poor people in rural areas reached 1.87 million people.
Meanwhile, in urban areas, he continued, the number of poor people was recorded at 1.83 million people.
"There was a decrease in the number of poor people in rural areas from 1.97 million people in March 2023 to 1.87 million people in 2024," he said.
Meanwhile, the number of poor people in urban areas, he said, actually increased from 1.82 million in 2023 to 1.83 in 2024.
According to him, the average poverty line in Central Java is IDR 2.28 million per month with 4.5 family members.
Meanwhile, Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana said the distribution of social assistance was effective in reducing poverty.
"This poverty alleviation assistance program will greatly affect the burden of spending on poor families," he said.
He added that the government cannot do poverty alleviation alone.
According to him, keeping the economy growing and creating a good investment climate is an effective effort to help reduce poverty.
