JAKARTA - A mother in North Carolina, United States, was arrested and charged with accidental murder for allegedly leaving her 8-year-old daughter in a car while working to death during extreme heat.

Police previously followed up on a child's report in critical condition in a vehicle in Charlotte on Wednesday, June 26, evening, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The child was taken to hospital and pronounced dead on Thursday morning, reported by ABC News, Monday, July 1.

His mother, Ashlee Stallings, 36, is suspected of leaving her daughter in a "hot weather" vehicle and the 8-year-old is in a medical state of emergency, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

The temperature in Charlotte on Wednesday has reached above 90s of Fahrenheit or above 32 degrees Celsius.

Stallings told police he left his daughter in his car while he was working with air conditioning on. But Stallings suspects the child turned off the car because of the cold.

When the mother returned to her vehicle about an hour and a half after hearing the latest news from the girl via SMS, she found her daughter non-responsive in the back seat, short-breathing and foamy mouth, according to a written statement.

Stallings used a hammer to open the back window and take their child to a local hospital.

"He (Stallings) admitted to knowing the temperature outside 94 degrees and he shouldn't have left the victim in the car alone," the written statement said.

The hospital's medical staff told police the girl was suffering from brain hernation due to hyperthermia.
