More Than 40 UN Member States Condemn Russia's Sejata Transfer To North Korea

JAKARTA - More than 40 UN member states, including the US on Friday, June 28, condemned Russia's "violating" arms transfer to North Korea in a joint statement.

Russia and North Korea "cannot hide public news, including about the unlawful transfer of weapons from (North Korea) to Russia.

"Independent experts continue to publish reports that fill this gap and keep violations known to the public," US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Robert Wood told reporters while reading a joint statement, reported by Antara, Sunday, June 30.

"We strongly condemn the unlawful transfer, which has contributed significantly to Russia's ability to fight against Ukraine".

The transfer of ballistic missiles, along with related ammunition and equipment, from North Korea to Russia violated several UN Security Council resolutions, he said.

Regarding the recent military cooperation agreement between Russia and North Korea, Wood said: "We are deeply concerned about the implications of this security and progress in cooperation for Europe, the Korean Peninsula, the Indo-Pacific region, and around the world."

Member states are urging the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities against North Korea's threats to international peace and security that undermine the global non-proliferation regime, Wood said.

In early June, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a state visit to North Korea, increasing relations with Pyongyang. Both parties promise to provide military support to each other in the event of aggression.
