The Sorong City Police have named the Head of the Sorong City Education Office (Kadisdik) with the initials YA as a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of COVID-19 health protocol tools (alprokes) in the 2021 fiscal year.

Sorong City Police Chief Kombes Happy Perdana Yudianto explained that the determination of the suspect was based on the case title on June 14, 2024 at the West Papua Regional Police.

"We have named the Head of the Sorong City Education Office as a suspect along with another person with the initials F for the corruption case in the procurement of medical equipment at the service," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 28.

In the 2021 fiscal year, he said, the Sorong City Education Office will get a budget for the procurement of COVID-19 alprokes sourced from regional incentive funds (DID) worth IDR 4.7 billion.

The procurement of medical equipment by the education office is for the benefit of all kindergarten, elementary, and junior high schools throughout the city of Sorong.

In the procurement of these goods, the education office engineered the price of goods and did not match the contract price, thus indicating irregularities and an impact on state losses.

From that case, his party confiscated evidence in the form of seven important documents, including contract documents, disbursement documents, budget documents for changes in 2021, RAB, agreement letters, and company bank statements.

"Based on the results of the BPK RI audit, it is estimated that the loss is IDR 2.36 billion," he said.

The police have examined 25 witnesses, then examined experts, including BPK RI auditors, regional financial managers of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and procurement of goods and services (LKPP).

The suspect YA committed several acts against the law, such as looking for company flags, working alone in the procurement of medical equipment that should have been given to third parties after being auctioned, then the person concerned did not set his own estimated price (HPS) and a reference frame (SEZ).

Meanwhile, suspect F, who acted as a consultant and helped YA to find the company, he continued, committed an act of falsifying the company's signature and engineering with the suspect YA.

The police have detained the suspects YA and F at the Sorong City Police Headquarters detention center since June 27, 2024.
