JAKARTA - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump attacked incumbent Joe Biden about the economic condition of the United States (US). Biden called Trump the cause of inflation

He is the one causing inflation, Trump said, attacking President Biden in a debate over whether Biden's economy is beneficial to Americans.

Trump then claimed there was no inflation during his reign.

Reported by CNN, Friday, June 28, inflation in the US was caused by many factors. The pandemic caused massive supply chain disruptions that caused soaring prices. The Russian war with Ukraine exacerbated the situation and made energy prices soar.

In addition, checks on stimuli distributed during the Trump administration and the Biden administration helped increase inflation.

CNN reviewed that inflation in the US peaked in June 2022, with consumer prices soaring 9.1 percent compared to the previous year.

This figure is now down to 3.3 percent which is still higher but much healthier. However, this figure is much higher than the inflation rate of 1.4 percent when Biden took office.

American inflation was not a problem for decades before Biden took office and was routinely below the Fed's inflation rate target of 2 percent during the Trump administration.

However, inflation was initially pushed to nearly zero artificially during the lockdown due to the pandemic. The reopening of the economy contributed to the return of inflation.
