Biden And Trump Prepare For First Debate Of Presidential Candidate On 27 June

JAKARTA - President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump will face off again in the first debate of the 2024 United States Presidential Election which will take place on Thursday (27/6).

The debate will be the first in US history where the incumbent faces a defendant and former president.

Trump has been charged by the court on 34 counts of crimes over payment of silence money for adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

Political observers believe Trump will bring up the case against Biden in his debate later.

According to a CBS News report reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 25, Biden is preparing for his debate in a number of informal talk sessions with previous advisers and White House staff and his campaign staff.

Biden's personal attorney, Bob Bauer, will take on the role of Trump in the resic of the debate that took place at the US presidential resting place, Camp David, in the state of Maryland, north of Washington DC.

In a statement, the Biden campaign team said America would "witness two different versions of the future" in a debate that will be broadcast by CNN television from Atlanta, Georgia.

Meanwhile, media reports state Trump is also preparing for his debate with an informal approach. He recently held a closed meeting with two Republican senators, Marco Rubio and Eric Schmitt, according to a New York Times report.

Schmitt is a close ally of Trump, while Rubio is one of the figures predicted to be a candidate for vice president from the Republican Party who will accompany Trump.

"Trump faces difficult interviews every week and delivers long speeches while standing in general meetings -- the quality of his stamina is prime," Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller said.

A number of topics that are expected to be discussed in the debate include immigration policies on the US-Mexico border, Israeli aggression against Palestine, the Russia-Ukraine war, abortion, arms control, and inflation.

The debate on Thursday will begin at 9 p.m. local time and last 90 minutes. Supporters are not allowed to watch the debate live to prevent interruptions.

The presidential candidate's microphone will be muted when another presidential candidate speaks, and the two presidential candidates will be given two minutes to answer questions from the moderator, a number of media reported.

Team Biden won the draw to pick a standing position or make a closing statement in the debate.

According to CNN, Biden decided to choose a standing position on the right side of the stage. Therefore, a closing statement in the debate will be delivered by Trump.
