JAKARTA - The National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN) conducted an excavation of Bata Temple found on the land of the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate, Batang Regency, Central Java (Central Java).

Head of the Batang Regency Education and Culture Office, Bambang Suryantoro Sudibyo, said the ancient object was estimated to have the oldest age in Central Java.

"This condition is located in Sawangan Village, Gringsing District, and will surface in 2022. Today are the three excavations by the National Innovation Research Agency at the Balekambang bathing site, Gringsing District," he said in Batang, Central Java, Monday, June 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the Bata Temple complex area is estimated to be quite wide. Delineation or temporary boundary line shows the temple area is about 1.6 km x 1.6 km.

This temple complex, he said, could be similar to Borobudur Temple which is integrated into one building or like Prambanan Temple which has separate temples in one complex.

He said the Bata Temple excavation team consisted of the Central BRIN, the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta, and the Indonesian Archaeological Association.

Based on the mapping of the area around the temple, he said, other temple points were also found about 200 meters from the location of the first temple.

Bambang said the execution of the Bata Temple is expected to be carried out by BRIN for the next 10 days.

"Today it appears that the shape of the temple has appeared. The first candi excavation process will be completed on July 1, 2024, then the results of the excavation will be conveyed through discussions with Bapelitbang and the Public Works Department," he said.
