Menkumham Affirms There Is No Effort To Protect Harun Masiku

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly emphasized that there was no attempt to protect the fugitive in the alleged bribery case of Harun Masiku.

"No, how dare you. It's a violation of the law," Yasonna said to reporters after attending the Plenary Cabinet Session on the economy at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 24.

He said there could be no attempt to protect Harun even though Harun was a former cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle where he belongs.

He admitted that he did not know Harun's whereabouts. "Where do we (I) know. If we know we have provided information," said Yasonna.

Previously, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko believed that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) could arrest fugitive Harun Masiku in the near future.

"Yes, it should be. You should be able to (the KPK will arrest Harun in the near future)," said Moeldoko some time ago.

A similar belief was also conveyed by former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Yudi Purnomo Harapan.

Yudi believes that AKBP Rossa Purbo Bekto as the Head of the KPK Investigation Task Force can arrest Harun Masiku, a suspect in the case of giving gifts or promises to state officials related to the determination of candidates for elected DPR members for the 2019-2024 period at the KPU.
