JAKARTA - The former governor of DKI Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), admitted that he was not interested in the idea of a 0 percent down payment. According to him, the 0 percent DP scheme in buying a house is just a gimmick because behind it there is a more expensive installment payment.

"The 0 percent DP is normal. Yes, right? We can buy 0 percent DP, buy 0 percent DP. However, the installments can't be held, boss, because the DP is 0 percent, right?" Ahok said during the Ask Ahok Anything Offline event in Central Jakarta, Saturday, June 22, 2024.

Therefore, if he was a regional leader, Ahok would prefer to provide apartment rental housing of up to hundreds of thousands of units for the people of Jakarta who earn mediocre income, rather than providing a 0 percent DP house.

"What I want to do is for Jakartans, who don't have a house, I want to prepare 300 thousand housing units that are ready to be occupied for those who produce it mediocre. Until later the children and grandchildren can be independent, they can have a chance," said Ahok.

In providing these housings, according to Ahok, the Government is obliged to provide subsidies so that the rental price of the apartment can be more affordable to the equivalent of renting a boarding house per month.

The residential location that can be rented at affordable prices, seen by Ahok, can be built with a superblock model located close to public transportation modes and commercial areas.

Thus, the people of Jakarta can buy houses at a more affordable price on the outskirts of the city because they can save on expenses, such as the use of fuel and toll roads.

Meanwhile, for land acquisition for residential construction, Ahok said the government could buy land for residents in dense residential areas.

"I want to offer it to a narrow person's house, in a narrow alley, maybe the price is only Rp. 15 million, Rp. 20 million per meter, because the car doesn't enter. Only the government can do it. I want to offer three times (fold). You have 100 meters of land, I will exchange apartments 300 meters," he added.

"If the apartment is 60 square meters, or 50 square meters, you get 6 units. The rights belong. You share it with Lu's children, Lu rent it, it's up to you to return home."

"I grow it. Half of me make it a park, so that Jakarta is greener, then I will make a shortcut," said Ahok again.
