BNN Destroys 2.5 Hectares Of Cannabis Fields In Aceh Besar

JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) destroyed approximately 2.5 hectares of marijuana at an altitude of 690 meters above sea level (masl) at one location in Pulo Village, Seulimeum District, Aceh Besar District, Aceh.

Narcotics Director, Deputy for BNN Eradication, Brigadier General Rudi Setiawan, said the destruction was the BNN's commitment as a leader institution in the Prevention and Eradication of the Abuse and Dark Circulation of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors (P4GN) to protect the public and Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) from the threat of narcotics.

"The marijuana field in Aceh Besar is the result of the BNN team's findings from monitoring the land for narcotics plants," said Rudi in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 22.

The results of monitoring, he said, were then followed up with the investigation process by the team in the field, where the total cannabis plants that were successfully destroyed were approximately 24 thousand cannabis trees weighing approximately 12 thousand kilograms of wet marijuana.

The height of the cannabis plant ranges from 100 centimeters (cm) to 300 cm with a planting distance of between 40 cm to 60 cm.

He explained that the destruction of the cannabis land in Pulo Village, Seulimeum District, Aceh Besar District has a basis in accordance with the mandate of Article 92 Paragraph (1) and (2) of Law (UU) Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

Based on this regulation, the threat of punishment for marijuana growers is in the form of life imprisonment or imprisonment for a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years, as stipulated in Article 111 Paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
