Firli Bahuri's Prevention Period Abroad Extended

Polda Metro Jaya extended the period of prevention abroad to former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri. Firli was prevented from leaving the country since November 24, 2023.

However, the Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Police Ade Safri Simanjuntak, did not specify how long Firli's extension to foreign countries would be.

"We'll update it later. What is clear (the prevention period abroad) has been extended," Ade told reporters, Saturday, June 22.

The prevention was carried out because Firli Bahuri is now a suspect in the extortion and gratification case against former Agriculture Minister (mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo alias SYL in handling corruption cases at the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) in 2021.

Even though he is a suspect, Firli has not yet been detained. However, Polda Metro confirmed that Firli was still in Indonesia.

"Everything has been done, we make sure the suspect is still in Indonesia," said Ade.

Dal kesempatan itu, Ade mengklaim pihaknya terus melakukan penyidikan atas kasus Firli dengan profesional, transaparan, dan akuntabel hingga tuntas. Polda Metro juga berkoordinasi dengan jaksa penuntut umum (JPU) dalam penyelesaipan pelempian berkas perkara sesuai petunjuk jaksa.

"We will continue to carry out effective coordination with the prosecutor. Even some time ago we also coordinated with the prosecutor regarding the fulfillment of the P19 instructions or the results of coordination as outlined in coordination with the prosecutor," he explained.

The former Firli Bahuri case was known to have been transferred to the DKI Jakarta Prosecutor's Office on December 15, 2023. However, after being investigated, the prosecutor stated that the case file was incomplete so that it was returned on December 29, 2023.

In the following few weeks, investigators who had completed the shortcomings of the case file returned to transfer it on January 24.

However, the investigating prosecutor who examined both formal and material stated that the file was still incomplete. So, it was returned back on February 2, 2024.

In this case, Firli Bahuri was named a suspect based on the results of the case title conducted on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Several pieces of evidence that became the basis for determining the suspect, namely, foreign exchange documents worth Rp7.4 billion. There are also the results of the extraction of 21 cellphones.

However, Firli Bahuri has not yet been detained. Although, he is already a suspect.

In this case, Firli Bahuri was charged with Article 12 e or Article 12 B or Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code.
