France 'Alert One' Anticipates Terrorism Ahead Of Paris Olympics

JAKARTA - Terrorism is a major security concern ahead of the upcoming Paris Olympics.

French capital police chief Laurent Nunez said France was at its highest level of security alert ahead of the Olympics, and the country was also preparing for a quick legislative election by the end of June.

French authorities also recently thwarted an attack on a sports stadium in another French city.

"Terrorism is still our main concern," Nunez said at a news conference.

"There is no clear threat to the Olympics and our country yet, but I would like to remind you that by the end of May, two people were arrested in Saint-Etienne and are planning projects aimed directly at the Olympics."

"The threat of terrorists remains as important as the threat of protests posed by radical environmental groups, ultra-left groups, and pro-Palestinian movements," Nunez said.

Last month, an 18-year-old Chechen man was arrested in the city of Saint-Etienne, allegedly planning an attack on behalf of ISIS at the city's football stadium during the Olympics.
