US Envoy Meets Netanyahu Amid Israeli Tensions With Hezbollah

JAKARTA - US special envoy Amos Hochstein met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

The Israeli PM's office did not specify what was discussed at the meeting on Monday, June 17.

But Hochstein's visit comes as Washington intensifys diplomatic efforts to try and prevent an increase in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, Chief of Staff totaling Tzachi Braverman, Secretary General of the Military Prime Minister Roman Goffman, political adviser Opir Fleck and Deputy US Ambassador to Israel Stephanie Hallett, the statement added.

Israel previously warned the increasing attacks by the Lebanese Hezbollah group on Israel could trigger serious escalation.

The increasing Hezbollah aggression has brought us to a broader escalation threshold, which could have devastating consequences for Lebanon and the rest of the region, "said military spokesman Israe (IDF) Rear Admiral Daniel kazi, in a video statement reported by Reuters, Monday, June 17.

Iran-backed Hezbollah last week launched the largest rocket and drone attacks. But in the last eight months Hezbollah has fought each other with the Israeli military, along with the Gaza war.

After a fierce shootout over the past week, on Sunday, June 16, there was a sharp decline in Hezbollah's shot.

While the Israeli military said they carried out several airstrikes against the group in southern Lebanon.
