JAKARTA - Defense Minister (Menhan) and elected president Prabowo Subianto hope countries in the world can continue to use their influence to pressure Israel to implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Prabowo, who recently returned to Indonesia after attending the Gaza Emergency Response Summit in Jordan, reported the results of the activity to President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, June 13.
"There will be a continuous influence so that the opinion of the world which will be represented by the governments of countries in the world, we hope to convince especially the Israeli side to stop their attacks," Prabowo said.
Prabowo emphasized that in recent weeks a number of European countries have changed their policies by recognizing the Palestinian state.
The move was followed by a UN Security Council resolution in favor of a ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip, announced by US President Joe Biden.
The resolution was adopted by UN DK with 14 votes in favor, and only Russia declared abstain.
"So there is no veto (at that resolution). This is a rare step. So we see there is a result," said Prabowo.
"If Israel doesn't want to impose a ceasefire, maybe Israel will be very isolated in the world," he added.
At the same time, Prabowo continued, Indonesia also called for the Palestinian Hamas struggle movement to immediately accept the ceasefire proposal for its own people.
The ceasefire proposal that Biden announced on May 31 consisted of three stages.
The first phase includes a total ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli troops from all centers of Gaza's population, and release of some of the hostages detained by Hamas, including the injured, the elderly, and women, as well as the release of Palestinians detained in prison.

Then, the second stage involves stopping timeless hostilities in exchange for the release of the remaining hostages.
Furthermore, the third stage of this initiative is to start the reconstruction of Gaza which has long been hit by war.
