JAKARTA - Imam of the Grand Mosque Sheikh Maher Al-Muaiqly will deliver a sermon at the peak of the pilgrimage, wukuf in Arafah which will be held this weekend and will be translated into 50 languages.

Saudi Arabian authorities have determined that the Arafah wukuf will be carried out on 9 Dzulhijjah 1445 or 15 June 2024.

The Presidency for Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque announced that the sermon would later be translated into 50 languages, quoted from SPA June 13.

This initiative was spearheaded by the Caretaker of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2018 and originally only into five languages.

The Head of Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Guards of the Two Holy Mosques of King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for his trust in Sheikh Al-Muaiqly.

"This trust is considered as support for the Presidency of Religious Affairs and a manifestation of a wise leadership spirit for their services to the Two Holy Mosques, priests and their preachers in promoting moderation messages," he said, quoted by the Saudi Gazette.

He then worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Judicial Studies at the Faculty of Studies and Judicial Regulations at the University of Umm Al-Qura. He also serves as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research.

Previously, Sheikh Al-Muaiqly served as the imam and preacher of the Al-Saadi Mosque in the Al-Awali region, Makkah. He was assigned to lead the prayers at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina during Ramadan 1426 and 1427 H. Then he was assigned to lead Tarawih and Tahajud prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah during Ramadan in 1428 H.

Sheikh Al-Muaiqly was later appointed imam of the Grand Mosque that year and has continued to be trusted as an imam until now.
