JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that no Indonesian citizens have died in a fire in an apartment building inhabited by foreign workers in southern Kuwait

The burning apartment building is located in Mangaf District, Ahmadi Governor, south of the capital Kuwait City, and the majority of its residents are foreign workers from India.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait has coordinated with various parties, including hospitals, and so far no Indonesian citizens have died," said a written statement from the Directorate of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 6.

According to information received by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwait said at least 41 people died as a result of the fire. Most of the victims died from burns and respiratory problems due to smoke.

The Kuwaiti authorities said the fire was indicated to have originated from the ground floor kitchen and spread throughout the building. To ascertain the exact cause of the fire, investigations by local authorities are still ongoing today, according to the Directorate of Foreign Affairs.
