President Jokowi Asks Gamblers To Repent: Don't Gambling, It's Dangerous To Bet The Future

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo appealed to the public not to gamble, both offline and online because gambling is not only risking money, but also the future.

"In particular, I want to say no gambling, no gambling, no gambling. Both offline and online," said President Jokowi when giving a press statement about the dangers of online gambling at the Merdeka Palace, as witnessed in a video broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 12.

The President asked people who have more sustenance to save or be used as business capital instead of gambling.

According to the Head of State, many cases of someone's property have run out, even husband and wife are divorced because of gambling.

The President emphasized that gambling can make a person commit crimes and violence, not even a few that cause casualties.

"Judi is not just risking money, not just games or playing games with prizes, but gambling is risking the future, both the future of ourselves, the future of our families and the future of our children," said the President.

On the other hand, the President also said the government continues to seriously eradicate and combat online gambling. So far, more than 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed by the Ministry of Communication and Information.

The online gambling task force (task force) consisting of cross-ministerial ministries will also be completed so that it is expected to accelerate the eradication of online gambling.

The President said online gambling is a transnational or transnational, cross-border and cross-authorization crime.

The Head of State assessed that one of the most important defenses is the defense of the Indonesian people themselves and their personal defense.

"Therefore, I invite all religious leaders, community leaders, the wider community to remind each other, supervise each other, and also report any indications of online gambling," said the President.

President Jokowi's statement is also related to the rise of criminal cases related to online gambling.

One of these cases involved a policewoman with the initials Brigadier FN who burned her husband Briptu RDW who is also a member of the National Police in Mojokerto.

The motive for Brigadier FN to burn her husband because he often spends money that should be used to finance the lives of his three children, is instead used to play judionline.
