Muhammadiyah Reminds Revision Of TNI And Polri Laws Don't Rush

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Legal and Human Rights Council of Muhammadiyah Central Executive Trisno Raharjo reminded that the preparation of the revision of the TNI Law and the Police Law should not be carried out in a hurry.

"It is not in the right place if the drafting of the law is carried out in a hurry, especially at the end of the term of office," said Trisno in a discussion on the Revised Police Bill and the TNI Bill, Is it Threatening Democracy? reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 12.

He also reflected on the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law in 2019. "The revision made the KPK as it is now because it was carried out at the end of office," he said.

In addition, Trisno also said that the DPR must show their compliance with the laws and regulations. "This is important for the benefit of the community at large, not for certain groups or interests," he said.

Trisno said the PP Muhammadiyah Law and Human Rights Council was of the view that the revision of the TNI Law and the Police Law should be submitted to members of the DPR RI for the period 2023' 2029.

Meanwhile, regarding the regulation of the authority to take action, blocking, or termination and efforts to slow down cyberspace access by the National Police, it is deemed necessary to carry out it responsibly, so it is necessary to obtain a court permit.

Then, PP Muhammadiyah, the Legal and Human Rights Council assessed that the wiretapping arrangement in the revision of the Police Law was a form of violation of privacy. According to him, accountability is needed to regulate wiretapping and the principles of wiretapping must respect human rights (HAM).

In addition, regarding the provisions in the revision of the TNI Law which allows soldiers to actively occupy civilian positions, the Legal and Human Rights Council of PP Muhammadiyah said that the clause should be abolished.

On the other hand, regarding the extension of the official life of TNI and Polri soldiers, it is considered that it needs to be considered as well as possible, and connected with arrangements related to their positions and duties to be carried out by prioritizing the function of protection and community services.
