CENTRAL LOMBOK - Central Lombok Police, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police, asked local people not to use electric bicycles on the highway, because it can interfere with the safety of themselves and other motorists.
"This appeal is one of the efforts to improve traffic safety and reduce the potential for accidents on the highway," said Central Lombok Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner Nasrullah in Praya, Antara, Wednesday, June 11.
The use of electric bicycles on the highway can pose a great risk to the safety of motorists and other road users.
Electric bikes are designed to be used in special lanes such as residential areas or closed areas, not on highways filled with high speed motorized vehicles.
"Electric bicycles are not used on the highway," he said.
He said the use of electric bicycles on the highway also violated the applicable traffic regulations. Under the law, vehicles used on the highway must meet safety standards.
"Electric bicycles often do not meet this standard, so it has the potential to endanger motorists and others on the highway," he said.
He also invited all levels of society to participate in maintaining safety on the highway in an orderly traffic manner and not using electric bicycles on the highway, especially allowing children to use electric bicycles on the highway.
"Security is a shared responsibility. Let's obey traffic regulations and use vehicles wisely," he said.
With the appeal and steps taken by the Central Lombok Police, it is hoped that the public will be more aware of the importance of traffic safety and comply with existing rules for the common good.
"This can create a safe and comfortable traffic environment for all levels of society in Central Lombok in particular," he said.
