MATARAM - The Agriculture Service of Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara Province, found a cow belonging to a farmer in Turida Village, Sandubaya District, indicated suspicion or suspected of having mouth and nail disease (PKM). Head of the Agriculture Service (Distan) Livestock Division of Mataram City, Baiq Raihul Jannah, said that the cow suspected of having PMK was found by the health team for sacrificial animals in Sandubaya District. "Our team found indications that the PMK cattle were checking the health of sacrificial animals at the breeders' cages, not being sold in collectors," he said in Mataram, Antara, Tuesday, June 11. Veterinarians who checked, he said, saw some of the symptoms of the cows that led to PMK, such as aqueous and moisturizing mouths. "But the symptoms are still considered mild, because the nails are not flexible. To make sure, we will carry out further checks," he said. Related to that, his party immediately separated or isolated the cow so as not to infect other livestock. For further treatment, Distan officers have provided medicine and routine monitoring will be carried out until the cow is declared healthy again. "We will continue to monitor and treat the cows of breeders in Turide until they recover because these are still mild symptoms," he said. He said the PMK case in Mataram City for the last two years was no longer there, so people were expected to remain calm and not panic about the problem.

The reason, he said, is as a measure to anticipate the spread of the PMK virus, the livestock extension team in the Mataram City Distant actively provides education to farmers to maintain the cleanliness of the cage, spray disinfectants regularly, and provide routine vaccinations to livestock. "The findings of the current case are still suspected because there are indications of mild symptoms of PMK," he said.
