US Mission Spokesperson At The United Nations Calls For Voting On Gaza's Ceasefire Proposal

JAKARTA - United States (US) Mission Spokesperson for the United Nations Nate Evans said it had asked for a vote at the UN Security Council on a three-stage ceasefire proposal in Gaza.

"Israel has accepted this proposal and the Security Council has the opportunity to speak with one voice and call on Hamas to do the same," Evans said as reported by Anadolu as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 10.

Evans said the proposal announced by President Joe Biden would allow the immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, withdrawal of Israeli troops from populated areas in the first phase, and immediate increase of humanitarian aid and restoration of basic services.

"And the return of Palestinian civilians to northern Gaza, along with a roadmap to end this crisis and plans for a multi-year reconstruction that is internationally supported," he said.

UN sources indicated that the vote could be included in the Security Council agenda earlier this week.

Israel has continued its brutal attacks on Gaza since the attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7, despite UN Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire.

More than 37,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza with most of the victims being women and children, and nearly 84,500 others injured, according to local health authorities.

Eight months after Israel's war, much of Gaza's territory was devastated amid scarcity of food, clean water, and crippling medicines.

Israel is accused of committing genocide at the International Court, whose latest decision ordered Tel Aviv to immediately stop its operations in the city of Rafah, where more than one million Palestinians sought refuge from war before it was invaded on May 6.
