JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto representing President Joko Widodo flew from Jakarta to Jordan on Sunday (9/6) night to voice Indonesia's support for the ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine, at a high-level conference (KTT) in Amman, Jordan, Tuesday (11/6).

Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Defense Brigadier General TNI Edwin Adrian Sumantha explained that the high-level conference was initiated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, King Jordania Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, and UN Secretary General Antonio Gutterias.

"This conference was held in connection with calls for a ceasefire in Gaza with the aim that heads of state could identify ways to strengthen the international community's response to the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza," Edwin said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 10.

The summit, which carries the theme 'Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza' or the "Civil Emergency Response Action Call for Humanitarian Disasters in Gaza", is scheduled to take place a day on Tuesday (11/6). Prabowo is scheduled to arrive in Amman, Jordan on Monday (10/6).

"With the presence of representatives from the Indonesian government at this conference, it is hoped that it can make a real contribution to joint efforts to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Gaza," said Brigadier General Edwin, who accompanied Defense Minister Prabowo's activities while in Amman.

Not only attending the summit, Prabowo is so far scheduled to meet his old friend, Raja Jordan.

On a separate occasion, Prabowo said that he plans to take advantage of the summit to offer assistance that can be prepared by Indonesia, including peacekeepers, field hospitals, health workers, and the evacuation of victims.

"I will coordinate with the Secretariat General of the United Nations and the leaders of these countries so that Indonesia can carry out our offer of assistance," Prabowo said when met at his residence, Jakarta, Friday (7/6).

Prabowo continued to emphasize that Indonesia remained in its stance that the conflict resolution in Gaza must be by a ceasefire and negotiations.

"Indonesia is also firm in supporting the independence of the Palestinian people, supporting a two-state solution, and supporting all ceasefire efforts immediately," Prabowo said.

At the summit event in Jordan, a number of countries, including Australia, also sent representatives to sit down together to discuss the ceasefire strategy in Gaza. Australia sent the Minister of Early Education Anne Aly to attend the meeting.

Pope Francis of the Vatican also expressed his support for the summit in Jordan. He thanked the ideas of the Egyptian President, King Jordan, and Secretary General of the United Nations, and called the summit an "important initiative".
