British TV presenter Michael Mosley has been found dead in a rocky area on the island of Symi, Greece which is just a few meters from its destination.
The news of Mosley's discovery was conveyed by the local mayor to Reuters on Sunday, June 9. Mosley (67) has been missing since Wednesday after a walk alone along the coast in the very hot weather.
"That must be him," said Deputy Mayor Nikitas Grillis pending official identification from the authorities.
Police spokesman Constantina Dimoglidou previously said the body of a person believed to be Mosley had been found in the Agia Marina area, north of Pedi village and across the northeastern coast of Agios Nikolaos where Mosley walked.
Another police official said his body had been found on a rocky terrain, close to the sea.
Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas said the discovery came after he and others, including state TV journalist ERT, recorded the area from a ship.
"We analyzed the recorded and clear evidence that it was, unfortunately, Mosley," Papakalodolukas said.
"He was found 10 meters from the sea, 10-15 meters from his destination, Agia Marina beach, between the fence and the footpath."
ERT's state TV reported that he was found lying face down with his head on a rock.
"It's not clear whether he had an accident or felt unwell," said Papakalodolukas.
Coast guard and firefighters have been deployed to the scene, a Reuters witness said.
AUNcorruption officer was on his way to Symi by coast guard, a police official said, adding that his body would be transferred to the neighboring island of Rhodes.
Mosley, who was on the island with his wife, was last seen alive at 1:30 (1030 GMT) on Wednesday. His children arrived in Symi on Friday.
Symi, part of the Dodecane island chain, has a length of about 10 miles (16 km) and has 2,500 inhabitants.
Mosley has appeared in British programs including the BBC Trust Me series, I'm a Doctor, BBC The One Show and ITV'S This Morning. He popularized diet 5: 2, which supports intermittent fasting.
Saileyha Ahsan, a doctor who works with Mosley at the BBC, expressed his condolences to Mosley's family. "He lives and breathes his work," he told Sky News. "He is inspiration."
