Press Pollution, DKI Provincial Government Asked To Pursue Target Green Open Space Up To 30 Percent

JAKARTA - Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Simon Lamakadu, asked the DKI Provincial Government to continue to pursue the target of Green Open Space (RTH) of 30 percent of the area. This is in order to reduce air pollution which continues to fall into the unhealthy category.

"The green open space needs to be expanded. This program requires acceleration. The target is still far from being mandated by Law Number 26 of 2007," Simon said quoting Antara.

According to him, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government can achieve the ideal target of the proportion of green open space by diverting non-functional assets or sleeping assets.

He explained that from the existing data in 2023, Jakarta only has an green open space of 33.34 million square meters or 5.2 percent of the total area.

The data, continued Simon, shows how far the ideal target listed in the law is, needs acceleration in expanding and increasing green open space in DKI Jakarta.

In addition to pursuing the green open space target, unused assets can also be used as water catchment areas, suppress air pollution, and become tourist attractions for Jakarta residents.

"Currently, our carbon dioxide (CO2) emission rate is quite high and is one of the sources of air pollution," he said.

DKI Jakarta air quality, on Friday is in the unhealthy category and people are recommended to wear masks when doing activities outside.
